United-Kingdom Power Steering Failure

I have owned my Mini Cooper for about 2 1/2 month's and I've just had the pump for the power steering fail. My pride and joy is going into a garage on Monday to have a new pump fitted. Hopefully I won't be without her for too long. Have any other owners had the same thing happen to their Mini's? And if so how long had they had their vehicles for?

I've heard of quite a few having that problem.

It's certainly not uncommon. A search of the failts and fixes forum for "pump" will bring you up quite a few results.

No, by not uncommon, I guess I mean of those with steering faults, the pump is one of the common factors. Most owners probably have no faults at all.

Remember too that you are viewing an International Forum. If other marques had as enthusiastic a following and you were to monitor their comunication it would seem that the Internal Cumbustioin engine was a total failure.

I too was offput while monitoring the chatter while I waited for my delivery. I has been a most enjoyable 10000miles

3 failures, 2 cars!

Hi all,

I had a MINI Cooper S registration BK52MXM that was a September 2002 build.
It had two occurances of power steering failures.
1). March 2003, the pump failed at the start of a journey and it was recovered from home,
2). September 2003, the pump failed at the end of a journey and it was recovered from Sheffield,

I then had a brand-new replacement MINI Cooper S supplied to me that was a September 2003 build.
It has had 1 occurance of a power steering failure.
3). December 2003, the pump failed at the start of a journey and it was recovered from home.

I am going to take advice now because these cars are unreliable and are a serious safety issue, because of the steering. How ironic that one of the major reasons why I picked a MINI was the steering? It seems a shame that it's going to either be the death of me but certainly the reason why I am rejecting it.
