Engine Noise / Resonance

Just wondering if anyone else had an increase in engine noise/resonance while the car was in the 2200-2300 RPM range? I have an 04 CVT, and there seems to be a noticable increase in sound when in this range. Just wondering if others experienced this.

so it is a normal sound, because my mini takes this too!?
and also while i'm standing and the engine speed vary from 740 rpm to 770 rpm there ist sometimes the same sound! I've bought my mini (05/2003 with 11.000km) three days ago, so i'm very careful with him and hear every sound he's taking!

My '04 MC 5-speed sounds its worst cruising along at between (you guessed it) 2200 - 2300 revs.
Seems to be a resonant point. When I notice it I usually speed up; slow down; or choose a different gear.
It brings to mind an old quote by a (supposedly atypical) BMW driver something along the lines of "Who drives below 3000 rpms?"

Might not be related at all but my MC had a louder exhaust sound between 2000-2300 RPM or so. They first thought it was the heat shield, then the dashboard but it turned out that I had a cracked airbox bottom! Under load (around 2000 RPM) this was vibrating and reverberating throughout the car. After this was fixed my car is much quieter, in fact it is hard to believe. It is much more refined now, almost too quiet some might say so if you want the sound gone the airbox might be something to check.

Sorry, the box that holds the air filter. It has a removable top part and a fixed bottom part. The bottom part of mine was apparently cracked. I never noticed so I'm not sure how easy it was to see it.

okay, but the noise in my mini didn't come from the engine room, i think the noise comes from the bottom, maybe from the exhaust...

That was my first thought too (thought the heatshield around the catalyitic converter might be loose) but it turned out to be the air filter box... go figure.

Well, some normal engine noise obviously but no more than at 1900RPM or 2500RPM where previously there was a loud buzz/hum around the 2000 RPM mark. Now the engine sounds normal where the pitch goes from low to high as RPM increases but there are no strange resonance frequencies like there was before and overall it is quieter too.

and where is the airbox in the engine room?

The dealer replaced it, warranty item (and since it could be something else and especially with a 3-day old car you might want to have it looked at if you're worried rather than doing things yourself so soon). In the MINI Cooper when you open the hood the airbox is near the front and to the right of the engine bay, nearer to the front than the battery box. In the MCS it is in a completely different location, to the rear of the engine (and the battery is in the trunk/boot).

i was now at my dealer, he look at the bottom of the mini and say that the noise comes from the exhause, near/before the catalyst converter! I'm going next week to the dealer again, and he`ll look specify at the problem. but he told me that the noise/vibrations are not normal!

Funny, that was the initial guess I had for the noise in my car... that's why it is often best to have it checked. Similar sounding things can have different causes.
