Loose shock-absorber cover

I'm probably not using all the correct names for these things, so spare me, I'm a girl.

Recently I noticed that the rubber cover to my left rear shock-absorber (at least, I think that's what it is) has come loose, and it is hanging down 2-3 inches from the ground now. I haven't noticed any problems, and the cover is still intact, but I'm just concerned about this. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I'm planning on taking my MINI to the BMW dealer nearest to me to get it fixed (because my MINI dealership doesn't have it's own garage).
