Question Boot light on in car, but the boot is closed!

Hi there, I have searched on the "boot latch" issues in this forum, but did not see this problem. If this is a retread, I am sorry in advance.

OK, Mini is about 2 1/2 months old now. Today I dropped the kidlets off at school and contiuned onto my office. As I was driving, I saw the Boot/Bonnett light on indicating that one or the other was open. I got to my office and immediately checked the boot, it was secure as was the bonnett. Opened and closed the boot for a second time and the light went off. Any biggie? Just a bug? Anyone else have a glitch like that?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Caroline

Microswitch controls the light, it sometimes gets stuck, quick visit to dealer will fix it.

this is a lock problem. Lock mech.. is stated as a problem in TIS and let the dealer know that when you get in.

The problem went from intermittent to worse for me. Following advice I saw somewhere on MINI2, I opened the hatch and used a Philips screwdriver to tighten the screws inside the two small black rubber bumpers on either side of the hatch closure. That seemed to be where the sensor is located. Problem solved. I doubt there is any risk of overtightening those screws.

i did like this as stated in TIS... unscrew the bolts on the lock so it moves around a bit. Turn the key on and you will see the red light on ( boot open ) close the boot without using great force, is the light still on ? if it is move the lock up a bit close again until the light turns of. open boot and tighten the screws. Adjust the ruber on both sides also so you dont have any anoying noises from the boot. most important thing here is that the u shaped metal goes in to the center of the lock. If not adjust the U metal lock. This weekend we are going to adjust all the small things that is stated in techical infomation system and i will post the most common foults on the car.
