Ticking felt through brake pedal on hard braking - NOT ABS

Continued from the other thread...

I think the ticking felt through the brake pedal on hard braking may have something to do with DSC.

PLEASE only answer the poll if you have experienced this...

I've had cars with ASC+T, DSC, and nothing, there's no "ticking" I can think of, apart from the ABS.

Chris,

ASC+T on my MCS. Definate 'ticker'.

Cheers

Simon

When/where/how/in what situation are you getting this ticking? Because it seems like you're talking about the ABS, but you seem clear you're not?

Brake failure - Scary Thread

All in here, but basically sometimes there is a ticking felt through the brake pedal and the pedal goes hard. Not ABS, it's a tick - tick - tick - tick at a frequency of about 2 per second...

Sometimes if you brake very hard, the what you hear or even feel is the Electronic Brake Force Distribution. It's within the ABS/ASC/DSC modulator. It won't vibrate like ABS, but you will hear the tick tick only a few times. I've heard it on my MCS.

MCS, DS/B, All Options and JCW!

Theres a lot of of electronic car protection stuff going on under heavy breaking, ASC.DSC , ESC, EBFD, and other stuff. pressures are being rapidly moved from wheel to wheel dependent on grip, or lack of it, the anitlock judder is constant and can be felt , but the other stuff might just be intermittent depending on the conditions.
The secret is to drive without using brakes at all .

I've had ticking a bunch of times in my July 2002 Cooper S. It's usually when I'm braking fairly hard - I kind of get the idea it's when ABS is just on the threshold of coming on, but it doesn't? It just ticks in the pedal as described above until you get off the brakes... I've had other cars do it (AST
+T and DSC S's) so I didn't worry so much... It usually happens when I've been driving hard for a while
