Whats Wrong With My New Speakers????

Hi guys,
I recently fitted new infinity 5000cs speakers and tweeters for a direct replacement for my standard front speakers. My main problem lies with my tweeters. I have the standard mini CD player boost. I just put the new speakers in place with the original wire from the old speakers. The tweeters are ok for about 15 or so minutes, then they start to pop, sounding like they are picking up a full range of frequency including bass. The speakers did come with crossovers but I don't know how to set these up so didn't put them in, is this part of the problem? If so can someone explain SLOWLY how to wire these up to the mini headunit, as I have no amp either.
Any help would be appriciated.
M.

Not using the crossovers is ABSOLUTELY the problem. There's room to mount the crossovers next to the woofer, toward the rear of the car. Read the instructions on connecting the woofers and tweeters to the crossovers.

Edit: the speaker cable from the headunit connects to two of the terminals on the crossover, the woofer connects to two other terminals, and the tweeter to two other terminals. There should be a diagram in the instructions.

There is an extra tweeter positive terminal on the crossover as well. This is so you have a choice of reducing the tweeter power by 3 db or so, IIRC. You'll have to decide which level to use.

I'm sorry if i sound a bit stupid but I havn't had any expiriance with this before. So does the original tweeter cable from the headunit connect to the two far left terminals? Then new cable from the tweeter outputs on crossover to the new tweeters? Where does the original woofer cable go? Then the new cable, what about that?

Thank you in advance for your help.

You got it. The stock cable from the headunit is actually split to go to the stock woofer and tweeter so you could connect both of them to the left terminals or just terminate one of them and connect the other to the left terminals. Then run new cable from the middle terminals to the woofer and from the right terminals to the tweeter.
