| Hmm, didn't have a brake wear indicator in 2002 MYs? Hmm, mine is a 2002 Feb build... interesting. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! | Had them all checked for good measure and they say I'm good for until my next service which is 6-7k km. Not sure but they don't think the older ones have rear sensors. | There were no sensors with my Oct 2001 One. They destroyed my rear discs just a few 1000 miles past their last service. My dealer paid half the cost of the new discs as a good will gesture. BMW were not interested. The service schedule apparently does not require that the pad life is calculated to last until the next service, so disc destruction is inevitable unless you have a newer model with them fitted. |

| Strange, here the local BMW/MINI garage doesn't recommend turning or reusing discs anyways. In my experience, turned discs warp very soon so it is a waste of money. I don't have any experience with putting new pads on old discs. No amount paid by my dealer though, all by me Guess I could drive more lightly... but that wouldn't be nearly as much fun ![]() Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! | When asbestos pads were being used it was almost unheard of to change discs. The new pads are more abrasive, but if the brakes are maintained and not allowed to sieze, then they should not need replacing before about 60000 miles. New discs at 18000 miles is totally wrong somewhere. Why bother fitting brake pad wear indicators if you are going to change the discs anyway. A nice metal to metal squeal should be warning enough! |
