Hey guys. Don't know too much about them so I'd just like to get thoughts on it...
My end-of-the-build-run '02
MC had to get its clutch replaced about three weeks ago. After the replacement, this is what it's been doing:
- Under semihigh-torque applications, theres a light raspy noise, most noticable in 1-3rd gears. Sounds like gears rattling.
- With the tranny in neutral, releasin ghte clutch you can hear the part in it spinning, making a whining-slash-rubbing noise.
- In 5th, there a high-pitched whine, the volumne vaires from time to time. It will get worse the more the engine pulls on the tranny, and will go away completely as soon as you release the clutch.
- Something (it's NOT the handle in the inside!) squeeks when you push it into first gear.
Now the first thing that came to mind was that when they gave me a new clutch, they didn't put any fluid back in the gearbox. So, took it down there, and the tech rode with me and said, 'Sounds like the fluid's low.' Yup. So, had them change the fluid out. (They DID charge me. Again. I will be complaining about that.) This changed, in that #1 is now EXTREMELY high torque applications, #2 is much quieter, and #3 is much quieter.
Note that before the clutch replacement, the gearbox was smoother than silk and quieter than a baby's snore in every single way. Moxie now has 83k miles on it.
Just curious if someone who knows a little more on them has any comments.
Thanks!
Fox.
