Have I just been in the twilight zone or Bemuda triangle?
I was driving my 53reg MINI one to work this morning as I always do and I was running a bit late so have to keep checking the clock to see the minutes pass by stuck in traffic and all. Well this morning I check my clock alls well working as usual and a few minutes later I check my clock and it has nothing on the display. Blank screen. Press a few buttons and nothing. Continue driving a little annoyed and a bit worried, keep checking the clock nothing then I check it and its back with the right time on the clock?! Continuous driving.
What just happened? Think something from the X files or something!
It's a feature Laura, the MINI knows when you're running late so it turns the clock off to stop you feeling guilty
Seriously though, I've heard of some people having this problem, but never had it myself. Just keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. If it does, take it to the dealer
Yeah I will keep an eye on it just was very odd! MINI probably wanted me to stop abusing him and took the privalidge of the clock away until I drove normal again!
I think that the clock is a transmission LCD. It lets light through from behind. It there is no light, you won't see anything unless you are realy lucky with the lighting conditions.
The tiny bulbs used for lighting things like the clock can fail and then the loose ends of the filament can join back up again.
Just change the bulb. If I'm wrong, it's not even expensive.
Poor Mini! You've been abusing him?? When you got in him this morning was it wet underneath the front of him? Some mini's have been known to cry when they're owners have been mistreating them or not spending enough time with them. Poor little guys.....
But on a different note it might just be a loose connection that caused the display to fail, sometimes caused by the dash moving as the car warms up from a cold morning.
