headlight adjuster not working

my headlights seemed really low the other night. had a look and the right hand one works fine with the adjuster. the left one doesn't. i gave the reflector a wee shove on the left hand side and it now points not too badly, though maybe a bit high.

but i'd like to get the adjuster fixed. i guess that because the right hand side light moves, the problem is not in the switch. i've checked all the fuses and the connections to the lights (and presumably the motors). anyone had this problem? how did you fix it?

i don't want to go to my dealer as they stink (see dealership forum) so would my local garage be able to fix it? (ie no special BMW tools needed?) obviously I'd prefer to fix it myself

thanks in advance

(excuse my awful typing- injured from a go-karting marathon at weekend! got blisters on my palms the size of 2 pence pieces- one has no skin on it! it's red raw! even typing is sore!)

This appears to be a common fault. My dealer fixed it first time... they should be able to fix this fault since its so common! I got a new headlight unit and i think they might also have replaced the switch.
