Is it rattles or is it the plastic expanding/contracting because of the change in temperature?

Yep, had it, still makes a noise, it took six hours! it involves taking whole dash out, putting some sticky stuff at the edge (which has started to come away already) it's amazing how much noisier the car is when it's cold, my car is gonna be no good anywhere apart from Aus, CA or Med! Still waiting to hear when Mini 2 is on it's way!

I know how annoyed you must be, I have just collected my Cooper from the dealers after the third attempt by them to refit my 'screen to cure a very annoying rattle.
When I spoke to the service team I asked them if they were happy that they had fixed the rattle........"yes we are very happy that the problem is fixed..." hey guess what 2 miles down the road....rattle....rattle....rattle.....

What can we do to get over problems like this

I am fed up with going back to the dealer as they seem to fob me off every time I ask them to look at this problem.

So I am gonna try and cure it myself with some card/rubber/tape/cloth/material or whatever it takes

I recon the only cure is replacing the dasboard. The reason it rattles is that the dasboard is a poor fit. As much as they try to fix it, there is nothing much they can do. I had the same problem with my Cooper, and when they tried to fix it rather than make it better they made it worse.

The fact that the dashboard is made of a cheap plastic doesn't help. If they used a more soild/rubber type of material as they do in Golfs we wouldn't have half the problems.

Crazy Phil, Reject! I spoke to my dealer again today, Mini are so used and aware that they have built bad cars that as long as you get on with your dealer they will help you. They want to keep your custom, you have taken the car back and let them have an opertunity to repair it, write a letter of rejection! I am down for a new Cooper in July but am going to see the consequences of going for an S (apart from financial)!
