Windshield Wiper Failure

There I was driving home from the Detroit auto show last night in a rain/snow mix. Feeling really good about MINI thinking "there was nothing I sat in tonight that was better than this" when it happened; Wipers stopped mid stroke. Was able to drive for a while without them then they started working again. Now they would not turn off. Few minutes later stopped again. When stopping the vehicle for a light etc they stopped mid stroke and wouldnt start again. This sequence repeated itself several times whilst I managed to limp home. Seems like the electronics have gone mad.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm calling MINI Windsor today but the wipers are working again this morning. I fear they might fix anything till its a complete failure.

That complete failure will probably happen during my commute to Troy Michigan on the I75 freeway with my luck! I dread that possibility.

I think what you may need to do is do a full cycle of you windscreen jets. In other words wash the windshield holding the jets for a while.

Dealer found a "wiper code" on the diagnostics. Replaced two relays and did "a reset". So far so good but we have not had any awful weather yet.

Notes on service invoice say that if problem re-occurs will need new motor. Lets hope not!

Good luck, jmoffat. It was a pretty scary commute when it happened. We have a storm forecast tonight so I get to test the fix. It's going to take a while to trust the wipers again!

I hope your car is pretty reliable with a 500km service ride! I thought last week what a pain this would have been if Mini Windsor had not recently opened. This is my first warranty claim. 9months and 15000km.
