New Mini woe - Reverse gear

I reported in the rating of the new gearbox thread that i occasionally crunch reverse gear. A couple of weeks on and its doing it regularly (30%), well not crunching itself, but it doesn't engage properly and it's so hard to tell the difference when i lift up the clutch i get the crunch...

Is anyone having similar problems? I guess i should get it booked in

yea i have it too. its on most 2005 coopers. here is what you do to fix it. instead of just putting it into reverse, hold the stick shift in neutral (and to the right) (with the clutch down) for like three seconds. then shift into reverse. no more crunch.

i have the same problem on an 04 mini. found it works after its crunched once, or i jam it right down into reverse.

Coopers always seem to have trouble with reverse Both of my 03s are/were extremely difficult to get into reverse. Sometimes it just won't go into gear, so I have to let the clutch out, push it back in and then try agian.. or theres a big crunch like you mentioned. Its very frustrating.. makes it impossible to do quick Y turns
