United-Kingdom satnav and hk

Does anybody know where I can find out or maybe somebody knows themselves the easiest way to take out the satnav head unit. I want to check the cables going into the back of it etc and do some tests as to why it's playing up, or does anybody know where I can get pinouts for it?

Basically it's not showing me where I’m meant to be. In fact it shows me that I am about 2-3 miles out of the area where I’m meant to be. However if I choose the option to show the vehicle’s travelling directions then it does. I.e. if I were travelling down a road and suddenly turned left after 200yds then you can see this on the screen - but it won't show the exact area I’m in.

Also would this problem have anything tied in with my faulty h/k system? I posted a topic up here recently. Simply, there's no volume in the car. Head unit and amp have been tested and everything's fine, speakers buzz out etc, there's the correct kbus and ibus signal

I would appreciate it a lot if somebody could point me in the right direction - I must stress that warranty is out of the question. However could bmw just do a diagnosis on the satnav head unit and tell me my problem?

George

Warranty is out of the question?! Man, what have you done to your car?!

I don't know what's wrong with your HK system, I missed the thread you say you posted, but I don't understand how a faulty audio system could mess with the satnav system.

How long has the sat nav been behaving like this? When you're on the "map" setting, so just the map is displayed, and you're not getting any guidance, does the GPS logo thingy show on the top right of the screen, or is the black box just blank? If it's blank, you haven't got a lock on any satellites. This happens to me from time to time, but after 10 mins driving, it usually sorts itself out.

The satnav unit is under the drivers seat (in right hand drive cars) and there's an aerial connection from the sharkfin on the roof to the unit that you'll be able to get to. You'll have to remove the drivers seat, and the sat nav cover assembly to get to it, but it's straightforward, and no huge hassle.

One thing I'd suggest before doing that though, is to get into the special menu on the sat nav system, as it can tell you how many satellites you have a lock on. I can't remember how to do it (was it go into the set screen, then hold the menu button for a few seconds?) but a bit of searching around will find it, or if someone remembers I'm sure they'll post it here

basically to put a long story short, the car was recovered after some damage to it. Everything is fine apart from the hk and satnav. Actually that little thing in the top right hand corner - only half of it is showing... maybe you'd know why that's the case?

btw, i know a mini breaker/salvage dealer and he's told me that he's had minis which were unbelievably damaged. I mean rolled, fallen off a cliff etc... and he said that he'd taken out a complete satnav system and hk system from a cooper s and put in a standard mini and there was no problem and nothing had to be programmed - everything worked.

I mean, mine had some damage to it but e.g. the breaker mentioned that the nav should not have damaged in anycase - i've put a second hand sharkfin on (there's only one type of sharkfin isn't there?) also i have a copied nav disc in there and it worked before the damage

i'll check that menu thing too and i'll post something up later

i'm afraid i don't have a pic of it, i don't have a digital camera to take a pic, i might be able to do it with my mobile though - i'm also having a problem finding the sat type to see whether there are locks on the sat.

hang on... you were told that you can't have satnav factory fitted with the harmon kardon system (tape boost, speakers, amp)? I find that hard to believe... because i got both of them as factory fitted options

george

p.s. please let me know if you think otherwise

really?
it works fine for me.
i have them both installed on my MCS '05 (US).

It trips out every now and again, but when i switch views on my nav, it figures itself out again.

i've got the sound working now, i got a second opinion and the chap checked the amp out, there was a break in the wire... we connected a live wire from the battery to the amp - all sorted now, just waiting on a gps antenna cable from germany to come and hopefully my nav will be sorted too
