Yellow Cooper Reverse gear difficult to engage

Has anyone had problems with reverse gear and getting it engaged?

I have had the service guys look at it once and they said it was hitting the exhaust and so adjusted it.

No better and going back in on Monday!

Cheers,
Jason.

If you check previous posts you will find many people address this problem. It is somewhat normal of a condition, and if the driver works the shifter right the problem usually goes away. To shift into reverse, place the shifter all the way to the right, and then move it all the way to the left, in one quick motion. If you are gentle it is dificult to get over there. This solves almost all problems, and is normal for this vehicle. Remember the mechanics can fix your car, not redesign it. If it is normal, then it can't be fixed, because nothing is wrong, just percieved.

Our car does it. It's annoying, but not so much that we'll make a separate trip for it...
Once the car needs something else, we'll have them take a look at it.

Every stick I have driven does it, there is no syncro for the reverse gear.

Actually, there is. If you look on Getrag's site, the tranny used in the MCS does indeed have a syncro on reverse. I've tested it out (moving forward slowly then shifting into reverse). I believe MINI designed reverse hard to get into just for this reason. You don't want to accidentally shift into reverse when moving at any forward speed. That would be bad . It's just something to get used to.
