New Clutch and Gearbox after 2000miles

Took my mini in to service as I had this grinding kind of noise coming from the passenger side but when I engaged the clutch it went away.

They took it in on monday and I got an astra hire car in return hoping it was just a bearing that needed replacing but so far it appears they have replaced the clutch and now the entire gearbox. I have had the mini from new about 2-3 months ago and it has only just done 2000 miles.

Couple of questions....

1. if a component went wrong in anything else I bought I would expect a new one within in this time period...am I expecting too much?

2. Will this reflect badly on the resell value / trade in value?

3. Has anyone else had this happen and what did BMW say to you?

Thanks

Spoogey

Cars are really too big a deal to simply replace if something goes wrong - No this won't affect the resale value and there are plenty of intances of gearbox and clutch problems with the Mini. BMW dealers generally fix things to the owners satisfaction.

exact same thing happened to me with my 2004 MCS. it had 2000 miles on it too. called MINI and complained. said "what about my resale value""the car was one month old and basicly brand new." they did not care. there is basicly nothing you can do. since then i sold my 2004 MCS and got a 2005 MC. not a single problem yet after 8000 miles.

1st MCS had new clutch, but also had another 24 faults, so rejected it.
Got new MCS almost a year ago after 6000miles I heard a noise from the engine, sounded like a spanner in a washing machine, but when the clutch was dipped the noise wasnt as bad, my thoughts were clutch release bearing.....and so were the dealers, after a good inspection they changed the gearbox under warranty. Resale value wont be a problem, oh and the car has now done 27,000miles, no probs yet.....touch wood

UPDATE
-------------

Got the mini back today with its new gearbox and clutch....NOW the gearbox makes the most annoying crunch when you put it in reverse! (much worse that it was before with my old one)

The service engineer just kept telling me they are all like that give it a while and it will be better as its new....SO i am going to give it a while then I want them to show me the 2 new mini they have in there show room and put them in reverse!!!

UPDATE 2
----------------

The damn noise that it was sent in for is still there. After replacing all this it is still there! What on earth is this noise?

Has anyone else had gearbox and clutch replaced only to find they still have that noise?

Thanks
