Question Odd noise when pulling away...

Hello..

My Mini makes a weird sound when I pull away from a standstill... or reverse from a standstill.. It sounds like it's my exhaust resonating, but it's not because I've had it checked. It's like a vibrating, rattling (if I could imitate it, it would sounds like a 'ddrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' noise!). It doesn't happen every time either. What could it be? Drive shaft/steering? Wheel barings?? I hope it's not serious. Doesn't affect the driving or performance at all...

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone.

heat shield above the exhaust manifold might be loose or vibrating. if so u just need to bend it away from the obvious areas. u can reach this thru the engine bay, its behind the steering pump assembly.

Shell's Mini has the same problem, although it sounds like it coming more from the back of the car than near the engine bay. She's taking it in next week to have it looked at.

Thats the noise I had - my dealer fixed it eventually - could be the heat shield alright- is it only happening when the engine is under load? May be caused by the engine moving on its mountings.........

My heat shield came away completely last week and got wedged against the steering column, meaning I couldn't turn left properley
