Hyperactive turn signal / turn indicator behavior

I've been having trouble with my right side turn indicator lately. It suddenly started flashing much more rapidly that it normally does. The left indicator continues to behave normally. In older vehicles, I would take this as a sign to replace a faulty flasher, but I take it that the Mini no longer has such an item.

Searching the forums, I've seen two possibilities. One is that the on-board computer is causing the problem and needs a reset (battery disconnect for ~10 mins?). The other possibility is that there is some sort of short in the indicator lamp housing.

Any ideas on which of these two might cause the signal on only one side to behave poorly? Should I just go ahead and reset the on-board computer and see if this fixes the problem and, if not, assume it's a short? Are there any downsides to resetting the on-board computer?

Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like a bulb failure. Reminds me of marketing b/s when a car brochure claimed
the car in question had this clever engineering that if a bulb failed the indicator would
blink faster to warn you. As far as I am aware this happens on every car .

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs
