Any one buying Miltek exhaust from amd beware ( ANOTHER MILTEK LOOSING BOLTS ISSUE)

Hello- Got a bit of a problem with the mini at the moment... think its the miltek exhaust causing it but im not sure.

Basically for about the last month the exhaust system has sounded much louder and raspy when cold--- It didnt sound unpleasant and this has quickly gone away when the system warmed up after about 5 minuits of driving.

Last week I noticed a ticking sound coming from the rear of the car on idle-- this went away as soon as i accelerated. I had put this extra noise down to the exhaust bedding in a bit and changing tone as this has happened with all other exhausts i have had.

However the last couple of days the exhaust has been sounding louder and luoder when cold and instead of the normal lift off ' popping sound' i have been getting more of a cracking noise on lift off.

Today the car sounds like a tractor and has not improved after a 15 minute drive... The whole car is shaking from the exhaust vibration--- really loud raspy noise--- passers by are staring at me coming from miles away.

I am taking the car back to the people who supplied and fitted the exhaust so they can look at it. I fit is not the back box then its going back to bmw.

Anybody hazard a guess as to what has happened... its a miltek back box, but every thing else on the system is standard

Check the bolts between the cat section and the miltek. Mine came loose last week and one of them fell out completely, resulting in a bit of blow at the flange.

The flange is located just behind the front wheels, in the centre of the car. There should be two bolts, nice and tight.

ok--- ive just jacked the car up and its fairly obvious what the problem is---- the cat pipe is no longer connected to the exhaust system:!:!:!:!:!

I cant see whether it has sheared off or whether the bolts have just come off- looks like the bolts have fell off, nut the system is defininately disconnected just behind the front wheels------ another great piece of work by AMD...I was warned not to use them but i thought i could trust them to fit a back box--- fuking idiots

AMD fitted mine too, and they still haven't sent my exhaust yet It'll just be the bolts fallen out. I fitted another spare bolt that I had to secure it till I take it back. It's not the "correct" size, but it fits and holds, especially with two locking washers.

Get on the phone tomorrow mate

AMD fitted ButtonIts exhaust

they loosen as they expand and contract under heat and cooling. You need to get some locking nuts, and perhaps use a drop of thread lock too

I fitted a Milltek catback a month or so ago too, but I have had no problems.

A friend who has a garage-company had done it for me. I think I will pay him a visit before I loose some metal pieces . There were bolts in the whole Milltek package, so we used these.

The problem seems to be that the rods that the bolts go onto are quite short--- AMD havnt used those weird nuts that lock themselves--- just used standard nuts and bolts--- only a matter of time before these rattled loose
