i took my 02 mcs into our local dealer yesterday to check over a few issues, one of which was a possible bearing noise from the rear of the car. having checked it over they are positive the rear bearings are fine, but did notice that both rear tyres were wearing very unevely (more on the inside edge of the tyre), BUT were unable to give any reason why, ither than suggesting i have mainly driven on uneven roads?
has any one else had a similar problem, if so what was done to rectify it? thanks
Hi
On my previous MC I had the same problem, when highlighted, the dealer said it was a characteristic of the Mini as was the pulling to the left.
When all the arguments had ran there course, the dealership sanctioned a 4 wheel alignment and guess what all 4 had to be adjusted. No compensation given for the premature wear on the tyre's and no reason why the wheels required aligning.
I would be very persuasive and have your dealer check the alignment on all 4 wheels. It is also a common excuse that if you kerb a wheel the alignment can be affected. The uneven road excuse is a bit thin.
Assuming that the alignment is correct, and/or after having it aligned as minimattblack suggested, the insides of the tires will wear a bit faster due to the negative camber.
The only real solution is the drive the car harder to wear the tires more evenly or to take out the rear camber (which will impact the handling negatively)
