Wales Stuttering speedo

After parking this moring I went to get my "pay and display" ticket but on returning to the car I heard a ticking noise and on looking around the speedo needle was jumping repeatedly up and down between 0 and 5mph. Key not in the ignition. On turning the ignition on it stopped and hasn't done it since.

A worry or just a brief gremlin

my fuel gage freaked out on me once...filled up my tank and it read empty
and just yesterday I got off the freeway and heard my fan running...looked at the temp guage and it said overheating...however I knew the car was fine...stopped it and restarted it...and all is well
the mini has some little electrical gremlins that need to be sorted out I think...but screw it I am just going to get some really nice aftermarket guages...I don't trust mine

What year, model, and how many miles?

If it only did it once, don't worry about it. If it continues then have it looked at.

2003 Cooper S Works with 16000 miles. Hasn't done it since so I'll keep an eye on it for now I think.

My June 03 S used to do it.... dealer looked at it and diagnosed a loose earth lead on the battery, fixing that stopped the problem, and it never happened again.

Hope that helps
