The sunroof on my 03 S is starting to worry me. It seems fine opening, but when closing it can take an age, is very noisy or will not close fully at all.
I think it just needs a little wd-40 or something, but am not sure. I've done a search here, but can't pinpoint any info on this exact problem.
Hi Frank.. My mini Cooper 03 has exactly the same problem...opens fine...closing makes lots of noises and sometimes springs back...ive rang the dealer...and its due in for a service soon....they say it sounds like the retention mechanism and would check and change it... ive read about this also on other forums..
Hi All,
Just a quick reply for the sunroof problems. Had exactly the same problem with mine, made an awful sound opening or closing, juddering etc...don't used WD40 cos althou it is a lubricant it evaporates away after a while and being an aerosol it blows away any grease or oil that is there. I used, of all things, motorbike chain lube. You get a long nozzle so you can get into the channel & its designed to withstand high temps, water, compression etc.
Hope this helps
I have literally just solved my issue with this same problem - I used White Grease with PTFE. It's non-evaporating, water & heat resistant and doesn't harden.
Used it on my 'squeaky' door hinges yesterday and guess what? No squeaking or stiffness anymore!!
