Outside squeaking on bumps

I've searched and searched but can't find any thread will this problem.

I have a squeak that I can only hear with the windows down. I'm fairly certain that it's coming from the driver-side front. It occurs when I hit medium to large bumps, or rough pavement at speeds from 40mph to 70+mph. I can't replicate it in the garage by bouncing or pushing on the bonnet, or by reaching up above the wheel and pulling doward on the coils. The squeak sounds just like a squeak, not a rattle (think mouse squeak).

I'm picturing it being a part of the body panels moving (which makes me queasy).

Anyone had the same thing?

bump.

does anyone else have this issue? Currently have 2 MINI's, a 2004 MCS that makes this noise over every large bump. And a 2005 MCSC that is just starting to do it.

I thought it might be the shock or strut, but it does sound like it's isolated to the drivers side (American). I wonder if that is just because it's closest, and both sides are making the noise...Any RHD'ers care to speak up and say whether they have this "problem", and if so which side of the car it is coming from??

My 03 MCS does this also along with all previous cars I have owned. It is simply the shock/strut compressing. Nothing to be concerned about.

Mine does this too. It's quite annoying and it makes me think something's wrong with struts/suspension. Makes me fear falling into bumbs... I hope it's what you're saying (a normal thing) but I think it wasn't audible when I first got the car...

Mine is making this noise at low speeds over bumps. Squeaks then a rubbing noise every so often. I had it in to the dealer and they said it was oil leakage from the right spring strut and that I needed to replace both. Another garage looked at it and said the struts were fine. Handling is perfect and the car feels solid. It only has 17500 miles on the clock. I have resigned myself to expect it at low speeds over bumps. I'll come back and tell you if the suspension breaks. ;-)
