Window Squeek

Agghhhhh The noise!! My drivers window and most recently the passenger side has started to squeeeek really badly when going up and down - to the point where passers by actually look over when they here it!
is this something i should take it to the dealer to get sorted? it's an 04 MCS and the noise is driving me up the wall.
Thanks
Paul

You really need the insight of others to know you should go get that looked at? I'm sure it will be covered under warranty...

It must be nice though to get your Mini all that extra attention from passer bys!

try spraying some silicone on the outer weather stripping that runs along the bottom of
the window. Put some dressing on the rest of the weather stripping around the sides.
I have to do this periodically on my 03, or they begin to squeak. Might save you a trip to the dealer.

My windows have just started squeaking bad in the last couple of days, thought it might be due to the weather as the sunroof is going for it big time as well.
does anyone also suffer with streaking on the windows, ive got that bad as well and my dealer said it was dirt causing it and claimed to have cleaned it but it still does it !!

We've just had the inner sealing strip in the drivers door replaced under warranty because of streaking. I think its glue or resin coming out from inside the door.

Our passenger window has just started squeaking too - I reckon the car is not used to the hot dry weather. If it doesn't disappear when it rains we'll take it in to the dealer. Its a March '04 Cooper by the way.

Our '05 only squeaks in the rain. It goes in for its first service in a week or so, so we'll see what the dealer says...

I was wondering if you could lub the windows...
I just have both regs replaced because mine was so bad it was holding the windows back as they went up, but it still making noise.

I assume you mean use silicone in a can around the rubber also?
does it make a mess or blur your windows?

I've heard cases where the lubricate the mechanics somewhere in the door, appears to work.

Shouldn't be a big deal either way.

I can also join the 'squeeky window' club. Mine has been doing it for quite a while but I have managed to put up with it for the moment. I am going to wait until a couple of other things go wrong then take it in, or wait until it's next service.

53/2004 Cooper - mine are driving me nuts in this weather as well. Originally it was the fixed rubbers on the door shuts which was cured with rubber lubricant. Now it does it with the door open so it must be the bottom rubber on the window or the mechanism. Unless anyone has a confirmed cure I think it's back to the dealer.

My 52 plate MCS has exactly the same problem. I will leave it to the dealer to sort out, as I am picking up my MCSa Convertible later today.

Bet that does it too.

My 03 MCS had the same syndrome on both windows (worse on the passenger side).
While my multiple trips to the dealer, they replaced the rubber seals (every single one of them) three times, lubed the windows several times and applied silicone as well. Nothing helped! At the end, I "mentioned" to them that some people actually cured this problem by replacing the window regulator. Then my dealer ordered new regulators for both sides and since than there is no squeak!

My point is that if they tell you that they will replace the seals and lubricate the assembly, just insist on getting the regulators replaced. It will save you lot of time.

Good luck!
