Engine revs to about 2000 rpm when starting

When I last had a service I asked to upgrade the software. Now when I start the car from either hot or cold it revs to around 2000 rpm and drops back down. Is this normal with the latest software as its really annoying? Another anoying thing it does is hold the revs up if you are giving it some stick through the gears, you find that the revs dont drop back much when you take your foot off the accelerator. It makes you feel like a learner driver slipping the clutch in between gear changes. Have I got a dodgy software upgrade? Does the very latest version do this aswel?

thanks Stuart

I read in a thead somewhere on this forum a while ago that the newer software (not sure exactly what version or which versions) does tend the rev the car to about 2000RPM when you start it.

I have an 05 MCS and whenever I start the engine it revs to about 1700RPM and then slowly goes back down again. I haven't had my software upgraded before, so I am still using whatever version they put on originally.

Mine does as well. I hate it.Even on a well warmed motor.
What's even more retarded is when it's very cold it only revs to about 1100.

I've been told this is "normal"
I hear "normal" a LOT at my dealership.
Every defect I've ever had was "normal" until I threw a fit.

I have the same problem and is in the dealers hoping for a fix, along with other probs which I have had since new a the car is now 2 years old, but I don't hold my breath as this is the 13th time it has been back over the last 2 years for left pull, dash rattle, vibrating gear stick, the infamous yo-yo, brake power loss when hot to mention a few and they have not been able to fix one of them yet but I will let you know what happens as they say the new software they have will fix it , we'll see

Thanks for the replys. Hopefully Steeljacket you will have some good news to report. And I will be straight down to the dealers to get it sorted. Can you let me know what version of software they load if possible. thanks

Hi I'm back with my MCS driving like it should finally after 1 year and 11 months, they have fixed the left pull the rattle in the dash is 99.5% fixed, and yes the stuttering/ruddering is fixed, it does rev to about 2k when 1st starting but the gear change is smooth the revs drop back normally when changing gear and I now completely love driving the car , it feels like a completely different car, they said they reprogrammed the software with the latest version again but if they done anything else they aren't saying, with the left pull they said they have adjusted the cambre to the right within the correct tolerences, as long as my tyres don't wear unevenly I don't care I am finally a happy man
