I sometimes struggle to find 1st-gear from neutral in my brand-spanking new mini. With the clutch fully depressed I often find that I can slot the gearstick into a position that clearly isn't set in gear. If I were to bring the clutch to biting-point, the gearstick will pop out into neutral. I cannot get the car into 1st unless I bring the clutch up in neutral and then try again: can get it into gear everytime like this. This doesn't always happen but when it does it will always be from neutral (for e.g. when pulling away from lights). This behaviour reminds me of problems nearly all cars have when putting a car into reverse gear.
Is this a common/known problem? Should I worry? Are the gears just "settling-in" (the car is only a day old)?
