Boot Open Light Won't Go Off...

My search on boot/trunk open light (blinking) fails...I have a Jan '04 build. A few other times the boot open light has gone on, but after a few solid closes, it usually goes away.

This week however, no matter how hard I slam the boot lid, the light stays on. And now, when (whilst) I'm driving, it blinks. Rather annoying as it catches your eye.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have 6k miles to go to my scheduled service, and the new job I just started is only a 5mi/day round trip, so I fear it will be awhile before I get there.

check your gas cap and your bonnet(hood). i feel like i had the same problem and one of those fixed it.

both the boot and bonnet latchs are none for goin bad, the default to the open position, one of them are most likely bad

Mine is also on half the time. sometimes it is related to opening and closing the boot. Sometimes when I startup in the moring it is on some times it is off. Other than curiosity and distraction, I have never been concerened with it popping open while underway. I do find that often when I close the boot that it is not fully closed, but that does not seem to relate to the light on issue.


Related or not, I had the rear latch fail so that I could nor open the boot, my dealer replaced that under warenty at about 25,000miles.
They have also fooled around with the latch and the light to see if they could fix the light, so far no luck.
This fault pales in comparison to the windsheild cracking, I am on windsheild #4, a replaced under warentee, one they would not cover.
I look forward to seeing if someone reports a fix or root cause of this issue.

Mine did the same thing for about a week, then the bc1 computer failed. Get it checked out.

Thanks guys, will get it checked. Probably due for an oil change anyway....added annoyance is that it is not blinking when at rest, but when I move, a soft chime goes off and then it begins blinking....

Thanks boot lid light also goes on for the bonnet (hood). Didnt realise that both activated that light. Saved me a trip to the dealer.

faulty boot actuators cause the light to stay on in most cases.

I have the same problem I have tried both bonnet and boot any other ideas??
