United-States CD Player Makes Noise When Door Is Opened

Hi all:

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper S with the single slot CD player. I have had the car for only a week but I have noticed something interesting about the cd player when ever I open the door after it has been sitting unused for a few minutes.

For example, if the car has been sitting in my garage and I then get in, the CD player motor activates like it is trying to eject or accept a CD. It does not do this if there is already a CD in the player. It will also make this noise if I sit in the car and then lock or unlock the door after waiting a minute or two. Has anyone else experienced this quirk?

I have the same "problem" - I'm using quotes for now, as this may just be a design quirk. Found your post while searching this topic. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

You're not alone!

According to a member of the "North American Motoring" group, this issue is not normal.

Just passing along this bit of info.

Did the member on North American Motoring give any more details on the problem. Do you have a link for it?

Could be the fuel pump priming... kind of a buzz/zizz a bit like the cd eject motor.

But then... so what? All part of the fun. Cooper S makes far more interesting noises than this

Several other U.S. MINI drivers have noted this noise on their '05 MCS's. Given the number of people who are saying they have the noise, I'm starting to wonder if it's just a quirk. The noise in question is definitely the CD player - not the fuel pump.

Still gathering info...

I actually own a 2004 Standard Cooper. I just had the CD player replaced this year, due to it skipping on everything. Now it makes the noise (as described here) whenever I open the door. Looks like I'll be heading back to the service department again...
