Road Angel Navigator, or Tom Tom with Safety Camera locations?

Hi All,

I am pondering buying the new Road Angel Navigator, has anybody got or tested one of these? I have read a few mixed reviews, some people love it others hate it.
I really want a sat nav system with warnings when im approaching speed cameras which this system does.

I was also thinking about the tom tom 700 as I believe you can download the speed camera locations, has anybody tried this on their tom tom? does it give you a reasonable warning of the cameras or do you have to keep an eye on the screen and thus not on the road?

Any feedback would be appreciated so I dont spend lots on money on the wrong choice.

Cheers

James

It looks good although I think its way overpriced considering you have to subscribe to updates at £3.99 month, {on yearly contract}, after a "free 6 months".

Have you considered the Tomtom Go 300 instead of the more expensive 700 ??
The main difference being that the 700 includes full European mapping.
Speedcam POI updates are Freely available for all TomTom models

I`m Very pleased with my Tomtom Mobile, giving good warning when approaching any dangers

yep the speed camera database is very good, the tom tom lets you set warnings at variable distances & most of the speed cameras on that database are now specific to a speed limit so you don't just get a warning of a camera, it also tells you what the limit is. the database is updated every month so its probably the most up to date one available.

Very glad I found this thread as I was contemplating the road angel navigator too. Reading some of those reviews has put me off a little.

If horse racing is the sport of Kings, should drag racing be the sport of Queens?

Seems exhorbitantly priced at £599 compared to TomTom with both doing essentially the same thing .
It is a good looker though .. but I`ll stick with my Tomtom Mobile for now

The problem I have with TomTom though is I use a PDA and tend only to take it out
to my car when I need navigation help. So most of the time I drive around with no
speed camera warnings. From this point of view I think a stand alone option like
TomTom Go that stays in the car is better. If I was starting again though I'd go for
a mobile phone capable of taking TomTom as I am never in my car without my mobile.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies and advice posted on here. In the end I went for the Road Angel Navigator. I managed to get it for £460 on ebay. I have to say I am impressed so far. Ive had it about 3 weeks now and it hasnt missed a speed camera yet.

The sat nav system seems to be good, although I have never used any other systems so cant compare it to any others. Its a little fiddly programming the destination in in the first place but once you get used to it its ok. The directions are pretty good, and if you make a wrong turn it finds a new route for you very quickly.
It even learns a prefered route if you use it quite often (although you wouldnt need to tell it where your going if you know!!).

It was expensive but im very happy with it. Would recommend it, but as I said I havnt tried any other system so cant say if its better or worse.

TTFN

James

I think I may go with the Snooper Indago even though its more expensive!

The main reason is the fact that it has a rechargeable lithium battery and from what I understand the road angel navigator doesnt have one and can only be powered from the ciggy lighter socket.

The roadangel is fully portable, the battery is charged up through eithert the cigar lighter in the car, or through the usb port on your pc. Battery life seems good. There is a walking navigation mode for city centres etc, although I havnt bothered using it yet.

Oh I didnt realise that, so whats it like for initial start up and finding the sats? my road angel can take an age.

And do you have a heated windscreen?
