Electric folding mirror retrofit - Qs

EDIT - Ok, I'm a dolt - just found threads in the Exterior forum... , but none that answer the below questions

Any of those who've installed newministuff's electric folding 'wing' mirrors want to comment on their experience?? I tried a search, but didn't find anything recent.

A few questions:
What does the 'mirror module' look like? - no pics on the site.
I assume there is a switch provided, or does it use the OEM (Euro) location?
If not OEM location, where did you mount the switch?
If the mirrors are folded WITHOUT the switch (i.e. in a car park) would they break, or are they 'fault tolerant'?
Did you use mikey's PTO for power, or something like an add-a-circuit in the fuse box?
Any problems threading the wires through the 'internal A post grommets'?
The DIY on the site mentions a 'DIY mirror module wiring guide' but I did see one in the DIY section - does it exist?
Does the UK really charge VAT on shipping? Not so here in the States.

TIA for any info/feedback!

I tried emailing Mikey, but didn't hear back, hence my questions here.

I'll be watching this thread. This is a feature that is not offered to US folks and I wish that I had it here in Germany.

The module is small Easily hidden 3" * 3"
We can supply the kit with or without a switch, most people take the auto remote version (if they have an alarm) Our kit cannot use the OEM switch
Up to you where you mount it - hidden or on show
Not fully sure what you mean? - if they are pushed they will fold manualy
The hardest/longest part of the fitting process is getting the wires through the door grommets
Guide for module - https://www.newministuff.com/new/ind...on=13&diyid=10
No vat on the shipping - in fact no vat on anything as you are in USA - the online shop will take it off during the checkout
Just looked for your email but can't find it - sorry about that.

Thanks mikey!

Good to know they'll still fold manually - was concerned that if there was a 'hard' connection they could be accidentally (or maliciously) snapped off.

Any pics of the 'one touch' switch on the site? (sorry, I'm detail oriented!)
I may do the auto fold, but need them to fold by switch to make entering the garage easier. Is the switch included or extra?

DIY mentions the mirror module wiring into the alarm - if only the switch is used, does one still install the mirror module, or is that only for the auto folding?

The cost is pretty dear, but the cool (and usefulness) factor is very high!!
Great news on the VAT - helps cover the shipping!

Slightly off topic - but a BMW dealer in another country has seen what I do with the Mini mirrors & asked could I help him with a X3 mirror conversion. He sent me a pair of mirrors - They looked strange (only 3 wires going into them - to do heating, glass movement (2 motors up down left right) & folding motor!!) When I opened them up I found each has an ECU full of chips inside!!! Is that wise? knowing how they fill with water, ice, get knocked??? Progress hey. ANyway I have sorted a solution for them

Hi Mikey,

What kind of switch is it you use for the mirrors to fold on request from inside the cabin?? Techniquely is it a SPST etc... which one ??????? I have got your folding mirrors which fold both on the activation of the alarm and with the extra switch which is mounted where the headlight leveling switch for the cooper is!

Everyone They are the coolest mod on the CAR Get them fitted

Mike,
It *is* possible to design & protect circuits so they work wet. Long ago we did a demo of one (24V 200A) motor controller running underwater - and it was not a potted product either!
Some "Humiseal" coatings (like those I use on the MINI circuit) can give this level of protection, so long as the circuit is also designed to cope with moisture. The MINI definitely does not have moisture designed circuitry

Where exactly (for the Yanks) IS the headlight leveling switch for the cooper mounted? Got a pic of the location and the switch?

I think it goes in the Euro Shelf switch position - the one where we can persuade the driving lights switch to go ...

I've not got them on mine, but I believe they are not switched on their own, and can only be activated when the headlights are put on mainbeam.
