US '05 Cooper S Interior Lighting Questions

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I will make this one short and sweet. Please forgive me if this has been asked. I've got a Cooper S hardtop built in May 05 with pretty much every option except DVD Navigation and the Park Distance Sensors.

- My radio works fine but I was wondering, is it suppossed to light up at night with the rest of the interior lights?

- Are my door handles suppossed to light up at night with the rest of the interior lights?

- What about the sunroof button ?

- Are there suppossed to be two orange lights behind the map lights on the roof of the car?

I ask these questions because I had what I think was an 05 demo car for a couple days (while mine was being fixed) and noticed all these subtle differences. I will get around to asking the dealer what the scoop is but was just wondering. I can't believe I didn't notice some of these things until now but since mine was the only other cooper i'd been in at night....

Thanks!
Al

P.S. I should add that I don't have the HK radio...just Boost.

I don't have the sunroof, but all the other lights you mentioned definitely illuminate on mine. Probably a disconnected circuit or other problem.

Oh crap I just remembered something...not sure how significant it is though.....I have Ian's Auto UP circuit for the windows, which as I'm sure most of you know, plugs into the back of the toggle switch panel. Anyone think that may have something to do with it perhaps? Poor installation on my part? The thing is, its not all interior lights that are off....just those select few that I mentioned in my earlier post. Either way, I will be removing that circuit before taking it into the dealer.

I installed the Auto UP ckt the morning after I got my car (several months back). Only had one actual night-time drive WITHOUT the ckt. Tonight I removed the downtubes so I could remove the auto-up ckt and take the car to the dealer tomorrow. BTW, I originally installed this circuit via the "blind" method.

So it seems I slightly bent an outermost pin in the back of the toggle switch panel. Well what do you know, this was the pin which powered all the interior lights that I noticed weren't working on my car. Ah yes....my stupidity.

Yes sir it is....thanks for asking!

Funny how I remember rationalizing the fact that the radio didn't light up at night. I used to say something like "oh maybe its another stupid safety feature....don't want us fumbling with our radio at night when we should be paying attention to the road" What some ignorant MINI owners will say to defend their car at all costs!

That actually is a Saab feature. You can turn off all the interior lights except the speedo to keep from interfering with your night vision on lonely rural Swedish roads.
Imagine explaining to someone that had broken. "Uh, the thing that turns off the lights at night doesn't work..."
Be lucky you have a MINI
