Velvet Cooper I'm in a fix with my head unit removal

ok, so i buy a fancy new all-singing all-dancing head unit, grt everything ready for fitting it, get the passenger side pillar removed and then realise that there is the most impossible screw to remove on the drivers side pillar! Nightmare!!! after hours of fiddling with it i finally gave up! does anyone have a clue how to remove the panel under the steering wheel so that i can get at this stupidly placed screw?

pull it really hard, dont be afriad of breaking it. it pops off easily but requires a fair bit of force.

Pull the bit of plastic under the steering wheel down from the top quite hard, there's a trim clip on the stereo side and one on the door side, then it hinges down giving easy acccess to said screw.

I did this yesterday in my One Seven, it took 10 mins to do the whole job - remove stereo, fit aux in lead and put everything back together again.

i absolutely love the one seven, could wait to get mine and had the dealer completely tortured, but the original head units are really just a bit s**t! thanks for the advice!

I'm sticking with the original one for now, it does the job OK and I like the idea of not having to carry a face plate around with me all the time!

for some strange reason, the original unit does not play rewritable discs and i copied the majority of my cds so that the originals don't get wrecked. i had a courtesy mini while i was waiting on mine and it played them, so i don't understand why mine won't! can't wait to get the new unit in just so that i can put on my favourite cds!

I've never used CDRW discs so it isn't really a problem for me! I have a high end Kenwood HU which came out of my old car but I don't want to put it in the Mini because I like the look of the standard one.

Brute force is the only option. get your finger under the lip that runs on the left side unde the steering wheel. Pull down hard and eventually the thing will pop (makes a big bang the first time you remove it!) ...then repeat on the right side. Its very hard and stiff but it does come off. then it swings down. Dont worry if the whole thing detaches as it just goes back on at the bottom and reclips at the top.

I had mine on a nd off loads for fitting phones and PDAs (satnav) etc.

Gotta luv our pop apart cars! I already had the down tubes off twice... Once for Icelink and the second for the Auto up circuit!

Thumbs up

o i absolutely love my new mini. had the worst ever experience with a 206 before and was sooooooo glad to get shot of it! in the 2 years i had it, i was back up with the dealer 25 times!!!!!!! i come from a family of mini lovers, my uncle has recently rebuilt a classic mini and my mum bought a cooper parklane about 3 weeks ago! they're so well finished and it doesn't take an awful lot to make them a little bit more individual!
