PICTURES--SONY CDX-MP70 MP3 with cd tray in action

My new radio in action great HU, plays MP3's smoothly.

The screen has 7 colors, this one suits the interior the best.

Hi daver, doesn't your IPAQ play MP3's, my Alpine Changer does!

How does your unit fit in, being smaller than the Mini unit? have you got some thing that fills the small gap at the bottom. between the head unit and the heater controls?

Your picture is at an angle, so i can't seeee!

It does but a cd holds 200+ songs in 128kps that's more then the ipaq (altough a big flashcard may help)...

After searching, driving and calling around for 4 days(BMW-dealer, caraudioshops-- UK-ICE-shops don't deliver in europe , I got hold of the official kit from BMW-HQ here in Belgium for fitting din-sized radio's into the big hole.
# 98 00 1 159 031
It was packaged in Official Schnitzer wrapping and it contained:
1.a fascia plate(to fill up the hole--it uses the 4 originals screws)
2.a BMW-DIN adaptor
3.a BMW antenna-standard antenna-adaptor.
in short everything you need.
All that for 89,53 euro (VAT incl).

in your opinion, (i presume you had the stereo without it to start with) is it worth going for?

My Alpine fits but give me a gap (5mm) at the bottom, between stereo and heater controls.

What do you think?

Next we will have to discuss the merits of MP3! I spent hours recording MP3pro files (using Nero) and the quality was sooooo pooooooor!

I reverted to 256Kb files using AudioGrabber!

I suppose not if you don't need the 2 convertor-cables. I needed them so the package was interesting enough for me.
Aren't there gaps on the side also? I had some white stuff on the screw-holes(from the factory) and I saw it when there was no fascia-plate. I suppose you could remove it very easy.

I rip my audio-cd's(128kps--higher rates aren't really audible in the car and that way I can more songs on 1 cd) with Easy cd creator5 (platinum edition) works great, you can go to 320kps I believe. And then burn it on a data-cd.

BTW the Sony also reads folders on the MP3-cd's so I can categorize everything very easy.

Oh yes; I had the factory Boost Cdplayer in it so I can compare the 2 builds. That's why I asked about the 2 side-gaps...

No, i just have one slight gap underneath, it's as tight as the Boost MD otherwise? I will give Mini Spares a ring to see what they have, I got the ISO adaptor with the stereo, so maybe they already fitted the adaptor and that is why i dont't have gaps and the sides? that's what happens when you let somebody else do the work!

good luck with it. The side gaps annyed me the most, the top gap not, because you always look at it from a top angle. And certainly not a gap beneath it. If that's the only gap you have I wouldn't pay for the fascia plate. That way you get some extra airflow around the radio to cool it

Daver!

I too have one of these lovely solid metal Sonys but as yet the car doent come for a week!!!!!

so i have had to make do with reading the book, and playing with the knobs

BUT..... i cant get my head round the naming of the MP3s

IS IT......

Folders can only be 8 Characters long and in Capital Letters such as TRAVIS

Or can Folders be in lower case and longer
such as Travis - Invisible Band

Just gotta know cos i need to start burnin some CDs!!!

Do you know if you replace the headunit and you've got the fancy steering wheel with the stereo controls, if the steering wheel controls will still work and if so, will they work differently?
