Retro Fitting HK?

Just wondering if this is possible?

I have a CD boost and Sat Nav in the car at present, so was wondering if I was able to buy a HK system out of another MINI then would it be an easy job to transplant this into my MINI?

Mikey are you there?

Just a thought and I might be wrong here!!!

Cant you upgrade to the digital sound power module if you already have the radio boost? Might be the easier option

The HK is excellent though One the the best extras I picked

HK upgrade is categorically NOT "an easy job".
The wiring throughout the car from head unit to amp, amp to doors and inside the doors is totally different - you'd have to strip the car down and add in all new wiring.

I have HK and am a huge fan of it, really glad I specced it on my car when I ordered her!

It can be done as a retrofit, MINI themselves quote £650 for parts plus instalation, so it aint gonna be cheap!

Better idea would be to talk to mikey n see what he would recommend instead!

I should think that getting the HK system fitted would cost as much, if not more than, the DPSM. I think it is about £950 for DPSM, but it has been a good few months since I checked.

The real expense in retrofitting the HK system would come from the hours required to fit it.

ah, thats what I was wondering, if it would be a plug and go system, or if all wiring would need replacing.

Makes sense, and makes it seem like something that isn't worth doing no matter how much I could pick up a HK system for

I was asking as I was watching a full HK system on eBay, just incase anyone was interested, it went for £165 in the end, so good luck to whoever is going to be trying to fit that

Perhaps it will be back on there in a few weeks time

Probably

I remember seeing a pic somewhere of the wires which the HK system uses, lets just say Good luck, even the best sparky in the world would struggle

not sure, a few people have said its better to have it on the convertible, but to be honest I haven't had any complaints over my standard boost system

BTW, the HK for the convertible is different from the hardtop too - at a minimum, different rear speakers; don't know how much more than that.

Here's the HK amp connection details, to give an idea of what wiring is needed:
http://www.gbmini.net/HKconnections.pdf

I'd be very surprised if the HK upgrade was £650 - was that maybe ONLY for the wiring harness? I would expect the price of the harness, amp, and all speakers would be at least £1000, and probably 4-6 hours labour.

I saw that too, think it was missing some pretty important wiring harnes from amp in the rear to the stereo and speakers at the front. But anyway, too much trouble to retrofit.

I did get the 3 wiring harnesses for a USA customer once dont know how he got on. It wasn't plug & play as although there were plugs, there was also lots of wires just with pins on them, as Ian says the car requires a major strip down & the doors rewring, you need the HK speakers & amp.
I would recommend looking at improving the speakers (get 16.5cm up front to replace the 13cm & stick an amplifier in
