Stock Speakers Going Dead

Hi everyone this is my first post here ever. This one is for my girlfriend.

She has a 2004 Cooper S with the stock stereo system. Sometime the speakers will just go dead until we turn the car off and start it again the speakers won't come back. We can change from CD to radio to AUX no problem when the speakers are out, but there is just no sound coming from the speakers.

Has anyone else experienced this?? We are planning on bring it in to get check but east bay motors is kinda far and we won't be able to get out there for a while. Does anyone have any tips or ideas??

Hmmm.... So this is NOT a HK system right? I would think that if the speakers are going dead that it is the HU that is causing the problem. have you tried removing the HU and clipping it back in to see if maybe you have a bad connection? I would try that first and if it still happens, you might need a new HU. If this IS a H/K system, you might have a problem with the amp.
