My current Whalen fits in my 04 MCS---will it fit in the GP?

I seem to remember hearing something about the seat of the know changing with the change in the gearbox in '05.

Advice please. Thanks.

sometimes the old ones are better Jim

yes it will fit, but the collar of your knob will need to be firmled gripped and pulled HARD onto the shaft of your stick. It won't full engage as your knob is too big, but it will hold on if you are firm with it

Fuzzy has the same problem, his first knob is a classic bought from Cape Cod MINI. Will it fit his GP?

My knob was provided by Jim and Sherry a long time ago, it has fitted everything since 2002 and will fit the GP , no mods have been required.
Still hard , shiny and too hot to handle today too

I guess the answer is to take the old knob to Monterey and try it.

They modifed the shift lever for the '04 model, by adding a bit of plastic on the top of that flange, where the base of the knob rests.

To accomodate that added material, I had to remove about .045" of steel from the end of that inner sleeve.
Since I learned of the change, I've been making all the of the knobs that way. Of course, they will fit a pre-'04 shift lever just fine.

To get an older knob to fit on a newer lever, you'll need to remove that bit of steel from the end of the sleeve.
Takes me about five minutes; but it would be tough to do, without access to a lathe.

Thanks Doug W, you will be getting an email. I know the new knobs are nice, but I have a strong desire to use the historic one.

The fitting discussions in this thread became a little heated, so I removed some of the posts. The entire original thread can be viewed here: http://www.mini2.com/forum/off-topic...ter-split.html
