Get your local car shop to mix up some liquid yellow and use that. You'll need to use a fine grade on sandpaper to get the paint to key to the dash. It would also be worth using a plastic primer too and finish off with clear lacquer.

It was acceptable in the 80's

You need to go to an independent motor factor. The ones near here are called Motorist Discount Centres. They'll be able to make small batches of paint from the paint code under the bonnet and put it into an aerosol or tin for you.

Not all paint suppliers can do aerosols. I work for the largest paint/bodyshop supplier in the UK and most of our branches don't do aerosols, they just mix the paint in pots.

I'd head down to Halfords and get a couple of cans of plastic primer, some liquid yellow paint (it won't matter if the match is slightly out because the dash doesn't touch the bodywork anywhere so it won't notice) and some clear lacquer.

Halfords can mix paints, but their colour charts/computer is out of date and doesnt have the MINI colours on it (or at least the Halfords in Altrincham didn't)

Ok, I guess I'm just lucky where I live then.

This is true, Halfords don't do any of the MINI colours. I've tried a few different branches before and then had to turn to my local motor factor who mixed some up for me.

VERY good advise. I think there is a company called "Dash of Colour" or something like that who specialise in painting dashes. Would be worth getting the job done by a pro, then you won`t be disappointed. I have tried painting similar items before and foudn the results a little lower than I wanted, thus making me pay for them to be done properly afterwards.
If it wasn`t something right infront of your face it wouldn`t matter too much, but a dash needs to be done right.
