Getting speaker cable into doors

Another ICE install question...

What's the easiest way to get a run of speaker cable into the door? I don't want to use the OEM cable as I'd like to avoid chopping the loom and I want better cable to take more power than the standard stuff is good for.

Is it easy to run cable through the original grommet and trunking?

The best way to avoid cutting wires is to use a wiring adaptor - MikeyTheMINI for example (NewMINIstuff) sells one that plugs into the original factory stereo connector and then you can connect the new wiring to that.

To run wires through to the doors, you have to disassemble and drill through the mating cornnectors between door and car - more drastic than cutting a wire!

PS:
MikeyTheMINI has a how-to for fitting electric folding mirrors; it details the same issues of running new wires through the doors. Check it out:

Nice one Ian.
I also have adaptors for joining to the wires in the doors
If you go for the drilling the door plugs, take care not to crush your fingers with the door!!!

dont try and run it thorough the mini rubberey wiring thngys there is no room and it is a plug on the body of the car not a grommet, best way is to run it through a new hole which you will need to drill.

alternatively there is a way for doing it which does not require drilling but is not a great way to do it.....
run the wires through a grommet leading into the engine bay from under the steering wheel then run the wires through the front wing into the door, it's not very professional but would work.

Mikey, what kind of power will the OEM cable take before it starts getting hot and will it allow a full range signal to the mids? Do I have to manually disconnect the OEM tweeters or will the adaptor you sell bypass tham? Do you have a link to the adaptor?

Finally...I'll be running Genesis Profile 16 or Arc Audio KAR 265 comps (have both, not sure which to use or if I should buy some DLS R6a) with about 60w RMS to start with but might upgrade to 100w a side or so when funds allow me to buy a better amp (I have an old Hifonics one now), what would you do with the speaker cables? The comps will be run passively and the tweeters will go in fiberglass A pillar builds or kicks depending on what sounds best.

Cheers!
