Replacement Head Unit

I have the standard Wave unit and want to upgrade to a better quality unit with single CD player.

Ive heard that maybe Sony do some that fit and possibly Panasonic. Anybody got any advice URL's , recommendations, how much am I looking at?

Thanks

Dom Thanks,

I realise my question was probably not very bright! I thought I had to get a unit specific for the Mini, to fit in its space, I assume then that any head unit will fit?

To the best of my knowledge it is a standard 1 DIN unit, so finding one that will fit should not be difficult

Motor On!!

I replaced the headunit with this Sony CD/mp3-player which IMO looks cool(aka the cd-tray-see pics). And there is no need for a cd-changer since 1 cd can contain up yo approx 200 mp3's on 128 kps.

I have it now for about 3 weeks and I'm really pleased with it. I installed it myself, by using the official conversion kit from BMW (Schnitzer--ordered it through my dealer)which contained a fascia plate, a BMW->DIN-adaptor and a BMW antenna->normal antenna adaptor.
Removing the old HU and installing the new one took me about 30 min (read the excellent FAQ about de-installation of HU).

Hope this helps.

Look at Becker and Nakamichi as both of these manufactuers make exceptionally high quality units and they look gneric with the MINIs dash - simple black unit with an Orange back light - nice a subtle...

Don't be all show and no go...

This car is going to lose me my license one day. I LOVE IT!!!

I agree... I've got Nakamichi and the sound quality from CD's is amazing... I can't even make it distort on maximum volume!

i m interested in the MB-75 head unit. i m a sucker for those in-dash CD stacker and anything coming from nakamichi is quality assured.

Here's a pic of my Nakamichi. Unfortunately I bought it about a day before I picked my MINI up, so didn't think about light colour. Fortunately, it's not too bad as the air-con lights are green and matches that slightly. My local ICE shop are looking into changing the colours for me

This is the CD-45z, the top-of-the range *single* disc player.

If I had the money, I'd go for the MB75. Obviously, as you said, you get an in-dash changer and superb sound quality. I remember hearing someone saying that they can jam, but to be honest, they've been through lots of testing and so long as you put in normal cd's (i.e, no extra stickers) I can't see there being any problems. I don't think it reads CD-Rs though, my 45z doesn't.

This was £500 from Sextons in Swindon, but it's on for £460 at www.cel-direct.co.uk

I think the MB-75 is about £650 there or something... it's regarded as one of the best places to buy online.
