Had my cooper s jcw a few weeks now. Small drives are fine, but anything over 30 mins and i'm finding the seats really uncomfortable. Anyone else find this? There still fairly new and the leather is reall stiff, will it get more supple and comfortable with time? Or should I be looking for some replacements
Depends how big you are... I had to lose 2 stone to fit proprly.... big ass you see. I am 6ft tall and did weigh 16st. Kind of sat 'on' the seat rather than in it. Now weigh less than 14st and alls well.
They do get more comfy with time, you also adapt to them.
If you haven't ridden a bike for a long time, your butt aches like hell for days after. However, continue riding the bike for a few weeks, and you get used to it and no longer feel the pain...
I loved the way they looked and hated the way they felt.....it was'nt my ar*se or legs but my shoulders and back would'nt fit in at all, i did try them for 3 months and sold them
Weight loss on shoulders and back is inpossible as all my fat is on my guts and that was ok with the seats, i only weigh 14 1/2 stone anyway......even though Tonyt3 did say to lose a stone cause im a fatty
I've noticed that even the standard MINI seats provide plenty of side support for me at 14.79 stones. To slide around in them as some people have complained about would require a skinny little butt. The JCW seats look like I'd be setting on top of some uncomfortable side bolsters.
OK, I googled "stone" to convert my 207 pounds to stones.
I'd love to keep them as they look great and match the rest of the interior (there in lapis blue to match the rears). I think I'll try them for a bit longer, I'm constantly trying different angles in the hope I might find a comfy setup, but at the moment I don't hold up much hope. Does anyone else have aftermarket seats fitted they could recommend?
I've got a 300 mile round trip to do at 9 tonight so I'll see how they go, thanks for the replies!
I did see the Recaro seats in a Mini convertable at bristol mini day, they looked nice but cost ££££ , Im a bit pis*ed off about the whole seat thing tbh.....my car cost me £18K from BMW and get the most rubbish seats poss, both JCW ones and the Standard sports seats don't make me comfy......i don't fit in the JCWs and slide all around the standard full leather sports ones
TBH, I actually find the seat in my ford Transit work van far more comfy, how sad is that also my mates Seat CupraR is more comfy...I could go on!
I think i will go to a big boy racer shop and sit in a few different ones, the ideal seat would be something like the jcw ones just 4'' wider and leather!!!
The standard seats feel more comfortable in half leather or no leather at all. The full leather seats mean you literally slide on them when cornering.
Its a shame they dont do a leather/alcantara mix. This would look good and offer best grip.
You never see rally or race cars with leather seats.... because of loss of grip as one reason.
I found the JCW's uncomfortable for quite a while, but after losing some weight and giving them time, I now hate the normal seats much more.
The reason the Works GP comes with reacaros is that a survey has shown that most GP owners are 40 something year old, over weight to near obese levels, and going through a complete midlife crisis.
I did find them uncomfortable at first, quite hard etc.
But after finding the perfect seating position in them (you have to push your bum right back and sit perfectly in the middle) they're great, so supportive. On a long journey, a minor shuffle every 15 mins or so and all's well
I've now gone back to the normal sports seats in my Cooper (the JCWs are ready to be fitted to my JCW) and the difference is massive! You really do get used to the JCWs. The normal seats (half leather) are softer, but just don't feel "right". In the JCW seats its such a different seating feel, you feel much more in control and connected with the car.
I think what people forget and without meaning to be rude is that the JCW seats are a racing seat made by Sparco and so are designed for a slim athletic figure especially in medium size. The larger size is designed for those with bigger muscle mass but the JCW seats don't come in this size.
I am a skinny git (5'10" 10 1/2 stone) and the JCW seats are perfect for me. The large would see me sliding around in them.
I think the issue of alcantera is a good one Tony but everytime I've read about cars with alcantera in them, the same thing always comes out, that it wears out very easily. Perhaps this is why it isn't offered.
What model are these ££££ Recaro's? Previous car was a clio trophy which had Recaro Leather/Alcantara and were perfect for comfort and support. There the same as in the Evo 8, end of line Civic Type R .
