ok i have removed the old gps navigation from under the seat, so that i can go out and purchase a similar one. So there is cuurently no navigation connected to the car. i have noticed that the screen no longer switches on will this come on again once i reconnect the drive or a new one. Also can i buy the dvd version and just plug it in. will it just work or should i just replace it with the cd version of the one i have.
If you have an MK3 (CD version) you can put in an MK4. Nothing is needed to do this. The screen will not display anything until you plug the unit back up.
I've got a 2005 S convertible with the GPS. The DVD version I have was 2003.2 but I got a newer version 2007.2. When I put the new DVD in the system says its the wrong CD/DVD so I figure I needed to update the Firmware. I burned the v32 firmware (NAV_SW_V32_.rar) to a CDR mode 2 but when I put it in the DVD player nothing happens. Is there something I need to do to get it to update the firmware?
I have 3 other brands I can burn - before I do is there a particular File system type I'm supposed to use? ISO Level 1 / ISO Level 2 / ISO Level 2 long / MS Joliet / UDF / UDF w Joliet ?
And I am only burning the file NAV_SW_V32_.rar on the CD right?
To upgrade your navigation software, follow these steps:
Start your car and run the engine at normal idle speed. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!), eject the navigation CD/DVD from your unit.
Leave your drivers door and boot open with the engine running. (Never close the door or boot whilst the upgrade is working).
Put in the V32 disk into your CD/DVD drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It can take up to 30sec for the Interface to load and can take up to 15 minutes to do the upgrade, Especially on the Navi Units (which updates in two stages - do not touch the i-Drive unless prompted to do so, whilst the upgrade is taking place) the MKI-II-III-IV are much quicker. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically. (Note: for MKIII systems that are on V17 (3-1/31) or lower, the system may ask you to insert the Key CD. If so, you will need to request the KeyCD from us and then follow the on-screen instructions. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE MKIII Unit)
Put your navigation CD/DVD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.
How are you buring the ISO to the CD? I have seen people try to burn the ISO as a file to the CD rather than the contents of the ISO file. I assume that you know this...
Don't assume anything with me - I've never updated the firmware before
I'm burning the file NAV_SW_V32_.rar to the CD. Does this have to be unpacked somehow into a bunch of files and then burned to the CD? If so how do I do that?
Ah! Yes, an RAR is like a zip file. Jump on Google and you will find an RAR program to unpack it.
Then there will likely be an ISO file. This is also an "image" file of a CD. Many programs like Nero can mount the ISO file and burn the contents to the CD.
OK I burned another CD with all the files off the ISO but it still won't read it. Does that have to be mode 2 for a MkIV? I'm at home and have no way to do any settings (mode/burn speed) as to how it gets burned so I just burned it - don't know what mode it is. Is it only the MkIII that the mode matters?
Thanks for you help - hopefully I'm getting there.
1. Pop out the DVD from the NAV.
2. Turn car on and putting the key into the first position (don't turn off until complete).
3. Pop CD in and watch nav screen for update.
4. Reboot system when told.
5. Eject CD and replace with DVD.
