Mini sat Nav

I popped into my local BMW garage to see what the price was of the updated cd. I asked if there was any other differences other than updating the roads etc, but the guy behind the counter didn't know.

I thought I'd seen someone either on here or on nam saying the display way slightly different.....

Can anyone help?

Graham

see the link in my sig

the latest software is Ver 27.1

Version 28 coming out later in the year

Ver 27 allows you to have perspective view enabled - ie 3D rendering like the TomToms

Dont be suprised that BMW have no clue, they are hopeless!

What Michael is talking about is the firware version. The CD's or DVD (based on the unit installed) are updated what looks like quarterly. You can go to Navteq direct, or you can get it from BMW. For me, the cost was 290 Euro for the latest DVD. It contains updated roads as well as Falkner guide with hotels, restaurants, etc...

If you have the older unit that runs only CD's then just the roads will probably be updated.

March 2003 on builds have DVD drives. You can buy either a CD or DVD map disc for those units. CD is about £120, DVD is about £200. CD's have all of Britain on them, DVD's have all of Europe.

The firmware update disc is something totally different and you can't buy this. Your dealer may update your system for you if you ask them nicely. Alternatively, there are often CD images of the update CD available for download on the internet if you look hard enough.

Maps on a 2002 Mini Cooper S

Dear all,

I have just bought a 2002 Mini Cooper S. Absoloutly love the car to bits, however I am wanting to update the Sat Nav. It is version 3-1/50.

does anyone know where i can download the latest firmware version and maps for the UK?

Many thanks,

Ian

AFAIK the latest firmware is v32 which is here;

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

There are a number of experts on here notably DaFlake so he may know better

There is no legal way of getting new maps except from BMW or Navteq.

As someone who has spent £400 and 2 months fixing a broken non BMW sat nav I would be very careful sourcing firmware and map discs...........

I can't get to the X5World site to see what the latest is for the MK3 but I think that your firmware is up to date. MK3 firmware stopped development about 3 years ago.

As for the maps, you will need the CD version of whatever you are looking for and you can get it from BMW or NAVTEQ. Many people have purchased from EBay but it is likely that it is pirated software and could also mess your nav up. Best just to buy a new disk for 70 pounds.

The updates AFAIK will do different things to different systems. It is for anything from the MINI system to the latest 7 series. For instance it will not apply a processor intensive option to a slower system As DaFlake said there may not be anything new for the early systems in which case effectively nothing will happen. Your sat nav will not do TMC and I suspect it will not manage perspective mode.

It is also possible you have burnt the image incorrectly.

The navteq cd is about £80 from navteq (navteq.com)

You need to put it in the CD drive (under the passenger seat?)

This sounds so stupid but i've looked under both seats and can not find a CD drive, should it be attached to the floor? not hidden etc?
