I trust it was a new tach you bought from ebay or a dealer?
Does the bottom of the tach (next to the bracket) have a sticker with information on it?
If it has no sticker, then , its a new unit and not coded.
This will need basically "enabled" by a dealer or independant dealer with MODIC or GT2 to get it working... sorry.. but there is nothing you can do without that step...
I bought it from the parts counter of the dealer. The parts guy said it's the correct part for my MCS, but didn't mention it needed to be programmed or not. I figured it's plug-n-play, oh well.
It does have a sticker on the bottom with some information, but its got less lines of information than my old tach.
Yup, the limited numbers on the unit indicate the firmware levels and not the configurations... which is where coding comes in...
I would chance my arm, and go see your parts man and ask him if he can do a you a deal on coding... it will take a trained tech about 15mins computer time to do.
All the coding does is enable the correct indicator lights to correspond to the correct function.. ie seatbelt warning does just that...etc...
Once coded..all will be ok, an you will get the temp etc on the display (assuming you have the sensor.... if not, get it coded and add it later...)
If you want the rev counter working but are not too bothered if some/any/all of the indicator lamps are corrrect, but a unit from ebay... the rev counter should work ok without coding for your vehicle... the std elements have common coding...
A unit from ebay should be cheaper than the dealer coding!
thanks... the rev counter works fine, just the OBC doesnt work. i'm not too bothered by it, i'm doing something with my original tach, once done, i'll swap it back. i'll do without fuel range and temp for a while.
