SAT NAV MK3 to MK4

Hi,
is it possible to upgrade the early factory fit sat nav 2003 to the later version.
Is it just a case of swap the boxes or is it more involved?
Also what are the benefits or would a newer CD/DVD improve the early models specs/performance and post code search facilities.
Cheers Rob

I assume you mean you have the cd system (to check, going into set and look at the numbers on the top right, if it starts with a 3 its cd, if it starts with a 4 its dvd). Its a straight swap, takes about 30 minutes total.

The new dvd is a LOT better than the cd system. Faster searching, smoother routing when driving, postcode search, perspective view.

Go ahead and do it you wont regret it.

I got mine from a guy on ebay complete with the latest mini firmware.

If you have dvd but its out of date there are various sites that can help you - drop me a PM and Ill tell you what to do.

Thanks Martin ,
I will try and swap the systems over ( the connections hopefully don't cause any problems
and no trips to BMW to reset the new one ).Just need to locate one.
Cheers

everything i am reading on this website points to changing to a mk4 nav system....

what sort of price should i pay for a 2nd hand unit from ebay, £200ish?

on the other hand, what is the newest CD based map disk and what sort of price do they go for?

Mark

Yes, you will need to remove the seat to get it out. If you are careful and disconnect the battery and make sure that all connections are in place BEFORE you reconnect the battery you may not get the dredded airbag light.
