I have a set of JCW front seats and the airbag light stays on can i just remove the

As my JCW front seats dont have air bags in ,the computor thinks theres a fault.and the air bag light stays on.BMW want to charge an hours labour just to down load a code to turn the light off.and at £95 per hour plus vat i ant going to use them.So i wonderd if i could just remove the fuse in the fuse box or will this deactivate the airbag.or is there a seperate one for the light.

If the light is on or you remove your fuse you loose all the airbags & the seatbelt tensioners. This could give you insurance issues

who fitted the seats?

if they were dealer fit then they should have sorted this out.

my dealer did the deactivation free of charge, even though they didn't do the fitting of the seats, but the average price they should charge is about £40, its a 5 minute job, the hardest thing is the paper work they have to do

It could also cause you death issues No seriously if planning on hitting something it is probably best to have all the cars safety features working (I know you have taken out the side airbags, but frount airbags and pretensioners are pretty important)

There is a trick where a 4 ohm resistance is put in the open plug. The computer then thinks the airbag is still there so no light lit.

Just be carefull NOT to put current through the system when you are measuring with a volt meter to see where the resistance must go. This could trigger other airbags to go off I have read.

Not that I have done this myself, I had the dealer disable the side-airbags.

Once the light is one you have to go to the dealer.

If you had not turned on your ignition after fitting the seats then a resistor would work.

You have no choice now!

There is a tool that will let you reset the thrown fault code (about 150 USD I believe). However, if you do it and it comes back, then you have an issue that needs repair. If the seats were fitted by MINI, then it should be under warranty.

The only people that can do this job with a code are the main dealers and my main dealer charges £100 per hour with the vat and said that it would be an hours labour.regardless

I stand corrected. The tool that I was thinking cannot reset the airbag light. A trip is necessary.... As Robby stated, you need to shop around and find a dealer that is willing to do it cheaper.

I've had it done 3 times. (Once to deactivate on Cooper, once to reactivate on Cooper and once to deactivate on S.) All 3 times it cost me less than £50 Think it was about £35-£40
