Question What DVD headunit with factory fit satnav?

Hi there

I have a 52 reg MCS with factory fit sat nav and I want to change the Boost CD for a DVD headunit. Can anybody advise which ones are compatible with the satnav - it needs to be able to mute the music when Mrs Satnav starts talking.

Thanks!

You will lose voice if you change out your HU. Unfortunetly there are not a lot of options for folks with Satnav. I believe that Mikey wired in another speaker in order to get voice once the HU was changed, but that was about it.

Yeh last I heard Mikey couldent find a way round it other than to hook up another speaker to the loom to get audio via the nav, better wait for the main man mike to reply to this..

Well I got a 2nd hand sat nav interface through this website (bought originally from newministuff) and fitted it at Xmas with my new DVD headunit - it all works fine, but the speaker on the drivers side is REALLY quiet even though it is set a maximum volume throught ehsettings on the nav screen.

Has anybody else got the Nav Interface fitted and how loud/quiet is it when the nav voice cuts in? Seriously, if my music is on I can't hear her, it's that quiet...

Any help much appreciated!! Thanks

Hi Mike

I did this and even when it mutes the music the nav voice is really really quiet. We have scratched our heads for ages over this and cannot work out a way of improving it. Does the BMW Boost headunit amplify the nav voice somehow?

Is there some way to adapt the adaptor so that I can wire up both front speakers so that at least I stand a chance of hearing it?

It's so quiet that if you're on the motorway the noise of the engine drowns it out

Or should I think about mounting its own speaker somewhere - behind the cupholders maybe???

Oh and why doesn't the nav volume control make any difference anymore - is that something to do with it being an aftermarket and not enirely compatible headunit?

Sorry for all the questions...

The laqck of volume & volume control is a known issue, adding its own speaker will not solve either - we are bringing in a different make of interface within the next few weeks which will have a volume control - I will swap it for you when we get them
