Is it possible to convert the panel under the steering wheel on US spec cars to the euro parcel shelf?

The answer has to be.. Yes.

Not knowing what this comrises of the best answer I can give is speak to you parts department and get them to order the shelf from european stock. However I guess the main issue here is the complience with your safety regs. As I think this is what they call "anti dive" protection.

Strange you want our shelves and we want your glove boxes.

If you can't order it in the US maybe you could get one of our LH drive european friends to order it for you.

Actually I don't want to lose the glove box, I just want to convert the space on the drivers side. Seems like a waste to just cover it up with a panel. I'm sure it has something to do with our safety standards.

Read this thread, especially MiNiGuY's posts. I plan to install the driver's side parcel shelf in my own MINI, when I finally get it (hoping for October).

Thanks Clutch, I wonder though if you can order the shelf from a US dealer? I know for instance that you can't get the six toggle switch panel from a US dealer.

Hi Markie,

Probably NOT. Which is where MINI2, with all its excellent UK and European contacts, will come in very handy.

I was thinking about swapping out the glove box too, and I even arranged a potential trading partner, but now I think I'll leave the passenger side alone.
