OE Sat Nav: Can an aftermarket stereo use the screen? - MINI2

Sorry if this has been covered but I tried to us ethe search button but I didnt find what I was looking for.

Basically, I am looking at a MCS in the next day or so and it has the OE SAT NAV fitted. Now what I am after is can an aftermarket stereo be fitted and take advantage of the screen for display, video etc?

We have an interface so you can put video signals through it - e.g. dvd or ipod video

I think the question is -- can the radio channel / preset # / RDS data be displayed on the screen as well as video?

It all depends on the head unit that you buy. If you get a head unit that plays DVDs and MP3s and an interface than you can tap into the nav screen for whatever the video out of that head unit supports. My DVD player gives me a MP3 menu screen as well as movies, but no radio data. There may be a headunit with a video out option for that though.

interesting thread, didnt think of this...
my only problem is that im going to change the factory boost unit for a new H/U and before ive even purchaced a H/U its going to cost me around £200 for the adaptors, interfaces etc! damn the mini for being so clever!
