Alarm!

Hello!

Can anyone help me find the specifications for the factory R53 alarm (2005 and after)? I basically need to know all of the features it has (and ideally what they all do).

Its pretty urgent...

Thanks!!!

AFAIK, it's got a tilt and infrared sensor, as well as a siren and red flashing light in the stalk. The tilt sensor is integrated with the siren - it used to be a seperate unit.
Hope that helps.

Its integrated with the ECU though right? Also I think I heard it has some kind of wheel sensor. IS that correct?

Specifically I need to know how it compares to an Omega Research: Executive UltiMate Model One.

Details here:

The problem that you are going to have with that unit is that they will need to hack part of the wiring loom to get that unit installed to get the most functions out of it. Your MINI already has doors that unlock and lock. The MINI system is pretty solid solution and it does disable the car. It does not integrate via the ECU, but rather the BC1 module. Here are some of the features...

1. Motion sensor in the car.
2. Tilt sensor
3. Seperate Siren
4. Disables the ability to start the car.
5. Stalk indicator.
6. Chirp on activation

The unit basically arms when you lock the car and is either on or off. That being said, it is more expensive than most but it is an integrated solution.

Thanks a TON for this. You obviously know a lot about it. Very helpful.

Where are you getting this info? In other words, is this off the top of your (clearly very knowledgeable) head, or is this a complete spec/feature list?

Excellent.

One more question:

What is an infrared sensor? Does this or the inside motion sensor function as basically a bump/shock sensor (for if someone hits the car or tries to move it (say by yanking on one of the handles or the hatch)?

It sounds like a really good system.

There is a motion sensor to detect movement of the car and there is one in the car (I think it is infrared) that detects movement in the car. So if you leave a window down and someone reaches in, the alarm will go off.

OK, one more thing:

The double-button-press of the lock button feature: Does that just disarm the motion sensor inside, or does it disarm the whole alarm, basically just locking the car as if there was no alarm? And does the indicator light stay on?

It only disables the internal motion sensors. It's so you can leave, dogs, cats, snakes, cattle, bears, chickens etc...... inside the car for a short while, when you pop to the shops or pay for your petrol etc.

Fantastic!

A couple more:

1) Is the sensor that detects actual movement of the car a shock sensor (ie if you bump the car it goes off) or is it the tilt sensor?

2) What is the noise like that notifies you that the alarm is enabled?

You guys are awesome. Really appreciate your help.

Lots of questions here....

There is a tilt sensor that detects movement of the car for sure. I rocked my car and it went off.

Not sure on the shock sensor....

As for the noise, the car beeps once (not horn) for arming and twice for disarm.
