Changing the speedo and REV

Hey guys,
Have any of you had experience changing out the speedo and REV counters? I presume that you can just pop out the mileage unit from the old speedo and fit it to the new one? And as for the REV it just plugs straight in? Or is there some sort of weird ID that the EMS won't like?

Thanks

Hi

Do you mean the integrated speedo/rev cluster mounted on the steering column or the discreet units?

The Speedo is coded to the BCM, if its the centrally mounted instrument - the cluster is behind it. If you have the speedo "pod" on the steering colum, the instrument cluster is part of the chrono pack or satnav unit - so either way, you are into coding (and worse) if you change them out.

The steering wheel mounted speedo/rev counter units are not difficult to swap - no instrumentation control is in there - they are only "slave" display units. You do need to code them, however, as they wont display the correct warning lights etc if you just swap them.

What is it you are trying to achieve?

Hope that helps.....

DJ

Hi,
Thanks for the information. I don't have the sat nav so it is the central speedo I am asking about.

I was trying to change out my dash lights and was going to get a speedo to work on and then just change them over. I think I will now get it done through essentialmini though, if they reply to my emails that is!
